Buskers Bern 2026: Cherry on top!

Buskers Bern versetzt die Unte­re Altstadt von Bern zum 23. Mal in einen kultu­rel­len Ausnah­me­zu­stand: 142 Artists aus 25 Natio­nen bespie­len während drei­er Tage vom 6. – 8. August die Gassen und Plät­ze mit rund 300 Shows an 25 Spiel­or­ten im Rota­ti­ons­prin­zip. Umrahmt wird das Haupt­pro­gramm von Shows im Buskershaus@PROGR und auf der Labor Bühne in der Post­gas­se, vom Kinder- und Fami­li­en­pro­gramm und dem Bizaar Krea­tiv­markt auf der Müns­ter­platt­form sowie einem reich­hal­ti­gen regio­na­len und inter­na­tio­na­len kuli­na­ri­schen Ange­bot an über 60 erle­se­ne­n­en Gastroständen.

After­par­ty im Buskershaus@PROGR

Das «Buskers­haus» ist seit je her unse­re Loca­ti­on für die After­par­ty nach Mitter­nacht. Dort tref­fen sich alle noch auf ein Bier, genies­sen die Show einer Buskers­band, tanzen, schwat­zen oder chil­len. Dieses Jahr sind wir das erste Mal in der Turn­hal­le im PROGR zu Gast. Pro Abend spielt eine Buskers­band, anschlies­send finden Open Jam Sessi­ons bis in die frühen Morgen­stun­den statt.

Festi­val­bän­de­li

2026 bieten wir wie früher nur drei Festi­val­bän­de­li an: ein Soli-Bände­li, ein regu­lä­res und eines für Kinder. Ein vier­tes, redu­zier­tes Bände­li anzu­bie­ten ist logis­tisch zu aufwän­dig, kostet zusätz­lich und hat letz­tes Jahr leider nicht zur erhoff­ten Erhö­hung der Quote von Bändeliträger:innen geführt.

Wäbe­rech­äu­er / Korn­haus­fo­rum / Reservationstickets

Schwei­zer New Folk hat in den letz­ten Jahren im «Wäbe­rech­äu­er» statt­ge­fun­den und war derart beliebt, dass wir ein grös­se­res Lokal dafür suchen muss­ten. Neu wird Anderscht aus dem Appen­zell, die dies­jäh­ri­ge Schwei­zer New Folk Band, jeden Abend im Korn­haus­fo­rum (ehemals Buskers­haus) aufspie­len. Dort hat es Platz für bis 300 Perso­nen, davon 200 sitzend, und es gilt Bändelipflicht.

Den «Wäbe­rech­äu­er» geben wir jedoch nicht auf: Dort wird Moritz Prax­ma­rer einem klei­nen Kreis von 23 Tee trin­ken­den Zuschauer:innen pro Abend drei- bis vier­mal die Show «The Story of Larry» (Storytel­ling with Teabags) präsen­tie­ren, und dies abwech­selnd in Deutsch, Englisch und Fran­zö­sisch (siehe Programm).

Für diese Vorstel­lun­gen sowie für die Shows «Caba­ret der Todsün­den» vom Théât­re Jaleo auf dem Müns­ter­platz sind Reser­va­ti­ons­ti­ckets notwen­dig, erhält­lich an den Info­stän­den in der Nähe.

Programm 2026: 50% Musik – 50% Visuelles im Hauptprogramm

Wir freu­en uns, wie jedes Jahr ein hoch­ste­hen­des, viel­sei­ti­ges Programm zu präsen­tie­ren. Eini­ge Acts sind aus vergan­genen Jahren bekannt, die meis­ten treten aber das erste Mal am Buskers-Festi­val in Bern auf und sind das Ergeb­nis sorg­fäl­ti­ger und aufwän­di­ger Booking­ar­beit der letz­ten Jahre.

Musik: «Cher­ry on top» (= engl. Sahne­häub­chen) der inter­na­tio­na­len Buskers Musikszene

Die brei­te Palet­te von quali­ta­tiv hoch­ste­hen­der Live-Musik, von zart-fragil bis tanz­bar ravig, hat sich bewährt und ist der eigent­li­che USP von Buskers Bern. Seit 23 Jahren bieten wir sowohl einhei­mi­schem Schaf­fen wie auch internatio­nalen Perlen eine Bühne. Dabei versu­chen wir insbe­son­de­re auch der Diver­si­tät gerecht zu werden. Frau­en auf die Bühne zu brin­gen bleibt dabei leider weiter­hin eine gros­se Heraus­for­de­rung, der Anteil liegt seit Jahren bei rund einem Drit­tel, dieses Jahr immer­hin bei respek­ta­blen 35%.

Erst­mals ist es uns nach anspruchs­vol­len Verhand­lun­gen gelun­gen, mit der Grup­pe Cris­ti­na Clara (POR/BRA) authen­tischen Fado aus Portu­gal zu program­mie­ren. Und wenn die drei exzel­len­ten Musiker:innen dann Choro oder Morna anstim­men, tref­fen sie sich musi­ka­lisch mit einem ande­ren Trio: Braza­ku­ja (BRA/FR, Breta­gne), welches zu einer wahr­haf­ten Festa Fran­co-Brasilei­ra lädt. 

Äusserst selten – und deshalb umso erfreu­li­cher – sind östlich von uns reine Frau­en­grup­pen wie das virtuo­se Sina­fi Trio (GR/TUR) zu finden. Die drei Absol­ven­tin­nen des Konser­va­to­ri­ums in Istan­bul nehmen uns mit ihren tradi­tio­nel­len Instru­men­ten mit auf eine musi­ka­li­sche Reise in den medi­ter­ra­nen Osten. Geogra­phisch und musi­ka­lisch in ähnli­chen Gefil­den veror­tet sich das Quar­tett Navâ Drom (KUR/MOL/CAN/CH), dessen heraus­ra­gen­der kurdi­scher Sänger Hamed Eshri unwei­ger­lich Hühner­haut erzeugt. Eine Brücke vom Balkan in unse­re Alpen schlägt die sieben­köp­fi­ge Fusi­on-Kombo New Balkan Folk (CH/CRO) unter der Leitung der bril­lan­ten Fidd­le­rin und Sänge­rin Jani­na Fink aus Luzern.

Zwei­fels­oh­ne eine sehr ausser­ge­wöhn­li­che Mischung präsen­tiert Segah – سه گاه (IRL/IRN), ein exklu­si­ves, deli­ka­tes und zugleich virtuo­ses irisch-persi­sches Duo aus Dublin, unter­stützt von einem blut­jun­gen irischen Star­tän­zer aus Done­gal, dem wilden Nord­wes­ten Irlands – nach dem Gross­erfolg letz­tes Jahr noch einmal bei Buskers Bern. Inten­si­ve Bein­ar­beit wird auch bei Sarsa­lé Flamen­co (ESP) geleis­tet, unter­stützt durch eindring­li­chen Flamen­co-Gesang, Gitar­re und Cajón. Auch aus Spani­en resp. Kata­lo­ni­en reisen die fünf jungen Frau­en von Ketekal­les (CAT) an und befeu­ern die Gassen mit heis­ser Rumba Latin Fusi­on zum Tanzen. Geschwie­gen (span. Ketekal­les = «schweig») wird dabei wohl kaum… 

Sene­gal wird dieses Jahr gleich doppelt vertre­ten: Einer­seits mit Afri­can R&B, Global Pop und Hip Hop performt von Oumy (SEN), ande­rer­seits mit Afro Global Sound und Sadio an der tradi­tio­nel­len Kora von Sadio Cissok­ho (SEN/CH), behei­ma­tet in der Ostschweiz.

Mit Casa During (IT, Raven­na) steht eine ganze Fami­lie auf der Bühne und bietet feins­te Itali­an Songs & Gypsy Swing – Djan­go Rein­hardt con un po› di italia­ni­tà! Zum Swing-Tanzen folgst du hinge­gen eher der bewähr­ten Gross­trup­pe Willy & the Sheiks (CH)zu ihrer Raving Swing Party, dies­mal mit Ausnah­me­sän­ger und «Stage Animal» William Beje­di. Rave dancen, aber eher folkig und irisch, kannst du wieder mit der unsäg­lich ener­ge­ti­schen Wanton String Band (UK/IRL/SCO). Nicht minder virtu­os, aber nicht string‑, sondern brass­mäs­sig, expe­ri­men­tell und mit Masken, geht es zu und her bei FÜLÜ (FR, Toulouse/​IT).

Zum gros­sen Bal Folk without Borders laden Bal O’Gad­jo (FR, Occitanie/​CH) und mit unschlag­barem fran­zö­si­schen Charme und viel Humor verzückt das Duo Les Sales Gosses (FR, Breta­gne) zum zwei­ten Mal bei Buskers Bern.

Juli­an James & Beci Kate (AUS) aus Down­un­der verbrin­gen ihren Winter in Euro­pa auf Tour und liefern soli­den Blues & Roots / Ameri­ca­na zum Eintau­chen und Mitsingen. 

Als Rumantsch-Premie­re am Buskers Bern dürfen wir comet (CH, Graubünden/​Luzern) mit Rhae­to Romansh Contemp Jazz präsen­tie­ren, unter der Leitung der viel­sei­ti­gen Kompo­nis­tin, Texte­rin und Sänge­rin Chia­ra Jacomet.

Sowohl das junge Quar­tett Fräu­lein Luise (CH, Zürich) wie auch Irma Krebs (CH, Bern) erzäh­len resp. singen in Mund­art und Deutsch, verpackt in süffi­gen Indie Pop Rock resp. öfters auch in sper­ri­ge­ren Post Mund­art Core. Auch aus der Schweiz: Hack­brett, aber anderscht spielt… eben das Trio Anderscht (CH, Appen­zell) im Kornhausforum.

Auch für die jüngs­ten Besucher:innen wird Musik gebo­ten: Schorsch&Oskar (CH, Bern/​Biel) bezau­bern mit bern­deutschen Chan­sons und wilder­bluescht (CH, Luzern/​Obwalden) backt singend und spie­lend – ein Cupcake.

Visu­el­le Shows: Hals­bre­che­ri­sche Akro­ba­tik und zarte Puppengeschichten

Die visu­el­len Darbie­tun­gen verspre­chen genau­so genuss­vol­le Verfüh­run­gen. Nicht nur bei Moritz Prax­ma­rer (CH, Däni­ken) wird Tee auf der Bühne getrun­ken, sondern auch beim Zirkus­duo Clap Clap Circo (URU). Doch in ihrer Show Borska spie­len wild umher­ge­schwun­ge­ne Hula Hoop-Ringe die Haupt­rol­le. Bei den Black Blues Brot­hers (KEN) sind es nicht Ringe, sondern die Artis­ten selbst, die in der Luft herum­schwin­gen und mit schein­ba­rer Leich­tig­keit atem­beraubende Stunts voll­brin­gen. Duo Kaos (IT/GUA) ist in ihrer Hand-auf-Hand-Akro­ba­tik eben­so hals­bre­che­risch unter­wegs und beweist dies auf zwei Rädern rollend zum zwei­ten Mal bei Buskers Bern. 

Damit nicht nur gestaunt, sondern auch zünf­tig gelacht wird, brin­gen Mundo Cost­ri­ni (ARG/ESP) gleich zwei Mozar­te auf die Bühne, die sich stän­dig konkur­ren­zie­ren, aber auch mal schön ergän­zen. Auch für Lacher sorgt der selbst ernann­te Fuss­ball­star Mencho Sosa (ARG). Er bietet mit seinen Fuss­bäl­len ein Jongla­ge-Spek­ta­kel für alle – egal ob für Soccer-Fans oder Futból-Skeptiker:innen.

Zarter unter­wegs ist die Compa­ñía elelei (ESP), die mit ihrem Tanz­stück Blind­ly den Moment weiter­ent­wi­ckelt hat, wenn dir von hinten die Hände auf die Augen gelegt werden, um den Namen der Person zu erra­ten. Den Gipfel der Poesie erreicht die Compa­gnia Dromo­so­fis­ta (IT) mit Histo­rie­ta de un Abra­zo, der Geschich­te einer Umar­mung, deren Puppen und Figu­ren jedes Herz berühren.

Walking Acts / Inter­ak­ti­ve Instal­la­tio­nen / Münsterplatz

Die Gassen der Berner Altstadt bele­ben ganz spezi­el­le Figu­ren: zum Beispiel der über­gros­se Flamin­go der Compa­gnie Mach­ti­ern (FR), der durch die Gassen stakst, oder der böse, Feuer spucken­de Drache, der nur ganz selten zahm den Kopf zur Seite neigt und sich lieb­ko­sen lässt (I Maghi del Tempo, IT). Rollend bewegt sich das hoch komple­xe, mecha­nische, Flamen­co spie­len­de fahr­rad­ähn­li­che Gefährt von Dyna­mo­gè­ne (FR, Nîmes) fort. Elegant tanzt derweil eine Balle­ri­na auf einem riesi­gen Ball, gelei­tet von einer über­di­men­sio­na­len Puppe (Compa­gnie with Balls, NL).

Dein Geschick erpro­ben kannst du bei den aus recy­cel­ten Fahr­rä­dern konstru­ier­ten Spie­len von Guixot de 8 (CAT), beim zwölf­tei­li­gen Mini­golf Parcours von Mumu­sic Circus (CAT) oder beim Diri­gie­ren der riesi­gen Mario­net­ten­hän­de von Itin­erà­nia (CAT). Bei Matthi­as Zurbrügg (CH, Bern) in der unte­ren Herren­gas­se schreibst du dich gigan­tisch frei.

Auf dem Müns­ter­platz gibt es dieses Jahr zwei gross­ar­ti­ge Shows zu entde­cken: Die bekann­te Schwei­zer Compa­gnie Roik­ku­va (CH, Vill­mer­gen) bringt einen bril­lan­ten Mix von trashi­ger Magie, Seil­tanz­kunst und Live­mu­sik auf die Bühne. Und Théât­re Jaleo (FR) spielt sich meis­ter­haft durch alle erdenk­li­chen Genres – von Puppen­spiel über Tanz bis Magie – und insze­niert die sieben Todsünden.

Auf der Müns­ter­platt­form befin­det sich wieder der belieb­te Akti­ons­markt Bizaar, wo Inter­ak­ti­on von Darbie­ten­den und vom Publi­kum gefor­dert ist, sowie das Kinder- und Fami­li­en­pro­gramm mit diver­sen Stän­den und zwei Acts. Im Buskershaus@PROGR, in der Turn­hal­le im PROGR, steigt jeweils die Buskers After­par­ty, wo jede Nacht eine Buskers-Band spielt und Jam Sessi­ons zum Mitspie­len und Tanzen einla­den. Auf der Labor Bühne mit acht Acts in der Post­gasse können vor allem Nachwuchskünstler:innen aus der Regi­on Bühnen­er­fah­run­gen sammeln. Das Publi­kum kann sich zudem an 63 erle­se­nen Gastro­stän­den, haupt­säch­lich aus Bern und der Regi­on, verköstigen.

Buskers Bern – ein Openair Festival der besonderen Art

Buskers Bern ist ein Open­air-Festi­val der spezi­el­len Art im UNESCO-Welt­kul­tur­er­be der Altstadt Bern. Das Festival­gelände ist nicht abge­rie­gelt, an drei Tagen hat das Publi­kum frei­en Zugang zu über 300 Shows.

Die Durch­füh­rung eines solch umfang­rei­chen und logis­tisch hoch komple­xen Festi­vals kostet rund eine Milli­on Fran­ken. Für ein Festi­val dieser Grös­sen­ord­nung ist das verhält­nis­mäs­sig wenig. Buskers Bern ist ein Non-Profit- und Low-Budget-Anlass ohne Spon­so­ren mit einem Eigen­fi­nan­zie­rungs­grad von über 90%. Deshalb ist Buskers Bern auf die Zahlungs­be­reit­schaft des Publi­kums drin­gend angewiesen: 

ohne Hutgeld keine Artists
Dank der gross­zü­gi­gen Hono­rie­rung der Darbie­tun­gen durch das Publi­kum machen die Künstler:innen weiter­hin Musik und bieten Perfor­man­ces, sind Künstler:innen bereit ohne Gage in Bern zu spie­len und können von ihrer Kunst leben. Das Festi­val über­nimmt Trans­port sowie Kost und Logis aller Artists für drei oder vier Tage.

Dank dem Verkauf von Programm­heft & Festi­val­bän­de­li können Bühnen gestellt, Essen für Staff und Artists ge­kocht, Hotel­bet­ten gebucht, Löhne bezahlt, Elek­tro­ka­bel durch die Altstadt gezo­gen werden – kurz: Nur so kann Buskers Bern weiter exis­tie­ren. Der Verkauf von Programm­heft & Festi­val­bän­de­li muss rund die Hälf­te des Gesamt­budgets decken.

Tipps für einen gelungenen Festivalbesuch

Vorver­kauf! Für eine opti­ma­le Planung empfiehlt es sich, den Vorver­kauf zu nutzen und Programm­heft & Festival­bändeli im Voraus zu erwer­ben, erhält­lich an 36 Vorver­kaufs­stel­len in Bern und online.

Früh kommen! Wir empfeh­len, das Festi­val bereits um 18.00 Uhr zu besu­chen, am besten schon am Donners­tag. Dann läuft das gleich dich­te Programm, d.h. genau gleich viele Acts wie später am Abend. Bei Buskers Bern sind alle resp. keine Acts Headliner.

Sitzen! Es ist vorteil­haft, eine Sitz­ge­le­gen­heit mitzu­brin­gen oder einen Camping­ho­cker an einem Info­stand oder im Festi­val­bü­ro zu erwer­ben. Dieser passt in fast jede Handtasche.

Bei Buskers Bern ist «Meet & Greet the Artists» Programm – für alle, jeder­zeit und über­all möglich ohne Zusatz­kos­ten oder VIP-Pässe, VIP-Tribü­nen oder VIP-Backstage-Führungen.

Verkehr und Signalisation

Privat­ver­kehr

Die Unte­re Altstadt Bern wird zwischen Zytglog­ge und Nydegg für den Privat­ver­kehr wie folgt gesperrt: 

DO, 6. August 2026 von 12.00 – 01.00 Uhr, FR, 7. und SA, 8. August 2026 von 14.00 – 01.00 Uhr .

Weite­re Einschrän­kun­gen siehe Info für Anwohnerschaft.

Öffent­li­cher Verkehr 

Bus Nr. 12 und Nr. 30 sowie der Moon­li­ner werden an allen drei Tagen ganz­tags umge­lei­tet über Graben­pro­me­na­de, Brunn­gass- und Post­gas­shal­de. Dies gilt für beide Richtungen.

Das Festi­val findet bei jedem Wetter statt. Eini­ge Spiel­or­te sind wetter­fest. Bei Regen werden Ersatz-Spiel­or­te indoor in Betrieb genom­men und es wird wann immer möglich unter den Lauben­bö­gen (Arka­den) performt.

Buskers Bern 2026: Cherry on top!

Buskers Bern is trans­forming Bern’s Lower Old City into a cultu­ral extra­va­gan­za for the 23^rd time: over three days, from 6 to 8 August, 142 artists from 25 count­ries will take to the streets and squa­res, performing around 300 shows at 25 venues on a rota­ting basis. The main program­me will be comple­men­ted by shows at the Buskershaus@PROGR and on the Labor Stage in Post­gas­se, a children’s and fami­ly program­me and the Bizaar crea­ti­ve market on the Müns­ter­platt­form, as well as a rich selec­tion of regio­nal and inter­na­tio­nal cuisine from over 60 exqui­si­te food stalls.

After-party at the Buskershaus@PROGR

The ​‘Buskers­haus’ has always been our venue for the after-party after midnight. That’s where ever­yo­ne meets up for a beer, enjoys a perfor­mance by a buskers’ band, dances, chats or just chills out. This year, for the first time, we’ll be guests in the gym at PROGR. A buskers’ band will play each evening, follo­wed by open jam sessi­ons until the early hours of the morning.

Festi­val wristbands/​bracelets

In 2026, as in previous years, we’re offe­ring just three types of festi­val brace­lets: a soli­da­ri­ty brace­let, a stan­dard one and one for child­ren. Offe­ring a fourth, discoun­ted wrist­band is too logi­sti­cal­ly complex, incurs addi­tio­nal costs and, unfort­u­na­te­ly, did not lead to the hoped-for increase in the number of brace­lets wearers last year.

Wäbe­rech­äu­er / Korn­haus­fo­rum / Booking tickets

Swiss New Folk has been held at the ​‘Wäbe­rech­äu­er’ in recent years and proved so popu­lar that we had to find a larger venue for it. From now on, Anderscht from Appen­zell – this year’s Swiss New Folk band – will be performing every evening at the Korn­haus­fo­rum (form­er­ly the Buskers­haus). The venue can accom­mo­da­te up to 300 peop­le, 200 of whom can be seated, and wearing a brace­let is compulsory.

Howe­ver, we’re not giving up on the ​‘Wäbe­rech­äu­er’: there, Moritz Prax­ma­rer will present the show ​‘The Story of Larry’ (Storytel­ling with Teabags) to a small group of 23 tea-drin­king audi­ence members each evening, alter­na­ting between German, English and French (see programme).

Reser­ved tickets are requi­red for these perfor­man­ces, as well as for the ​‘Caba­ret der Todsün­den’ shows by Théât­re Jaleo on Müns­ter­platz; these are available from the near­by infor­ma­ti­on stands.

2026 Programme: 50% music – 50% visual arts in the main programme

As we do every year, we are deligh­ted to present a high-calib­re, varied program­me. Some acts are fami­li­ar from previous years, but most are performing at the Buskers Festi­val in Bern for the first time and are the result of careful and pains­ta­king booking efforts over the last few years.

Music: ​‘Cher­ry on top’ of the inter­na­tio­nal buskers’ music scene

The wide range of high-quali­ty live music, from deli­ca­te and fragi­le to danceable and raving, has proven its worth and is the real USP of Buskers Bern. For 23 years, we have been provi­ding a stage for both local talent and inter­na­tio­nal gems. In doing so, we make a parti­cu­lar effort to promo­te diver­si­ty. Unfort­u­na­te­ly, getting more women on stage remains a major chall­enge; the propor­ti­on has hover­ed around a third for years, though this year it has reached a respec­ta­ble 35 per cent.

For the first time, follo­wing chal­len­ging nego­tia­ti­ons, we have succee­ded in secu­ring a perfor­mance of authen­tic Portu­gue­se fado with the Cris­ti­na Clara ensem­ble (POR/BRA). And when these three outstan­ding musi­ci­ans strike up a tune of choro or morna, they come toge­ther musi­cal­ly with another trio: Braza­ku­ja (BRA/FR, Britt­a­ny), who invi­te us to a veri­ta­ble Festa Franco-Brasileira.

It is extre­me­ly rare – and ther­e­fo­re all the more delightful – to find all-fema­le groups from the East, such as the virtuo­so Sina­fi Trio (GR/TUR). The three gradua­tes of the Istan­bul Conser­va­toire take us on a musi­cal jour­ney to the eastern Medi­ter­ra­ne­an with their tradi­tio­nal instru­ments. Geogra­phi­cal­ly and musi­cal­ly situa­ted in simi­lar regi­ons is the Navâ Drom quar­tet (KUR/MOL/CAN/CH), whose outstan­ding Kurdish singer, Hamed Eshri, is sure to give you goose­bumps. The seven-piece fusi­on ensem­ble New Balkan Folk (CH/CRO), led by the bril­li­ant fidd­ler and singer Jani­na Fink from Lucer­ne, builds a bridge from the Balkans to our Alps.

Segah – سه گاه (IRL/IRN) – an exclu­si­ve, refi­ned and at the same time virtuo­sic Irish-Persi­an duo from Dublin, support­ed by a very young Irish star dancer from Done­gal in the wild north-west of Ireland – are undoub­ted­ly presen­ting a truly extra­or­di­na­ry blend, retur­ning to Buskers Bern follo­wing last year’s huge success. Sarsa­lé Flamen­co (ESP) also deli­ver inten­se foot­work, accom­pa­nied by haun­ting flamen­co vocals, guitar and cajón. Also travel­ling from Spain – or rather Cata­lo­nia – are the five young women of Ketekal­les (CAT), who will set the streets alight with sizz­ling rumba Latin fusi­on, getting ever­yo­ne dancing. ​‘Silence’ (Spanish: Ketekal­les = ​‘shut up’) is hard­ly likely to be observed…

Sene­gal will be repre­sen­ted twice this year: on the one hand with Afri­can R&B, global pop and hip hop perfor­med by Oumy (SEN), and on the other with Afro global sound and Sadio on the tradi­tio­nal kora by Sadio Cissok­ho (SEN/CH), who is based in eastern Switzerland.

Casa During (IT, Raven­na) brings a whole fami­ly to the stage, serving up the finest Itali­an songs and Gypsy swing – Djan­go Rein­hardt with a touch of Itali­an flair! For swing dancing, howe­ver, you’ll want to head along to the tried-and-tested big band Willy & the Sheiks (CH) and their Raving Swing Party, this time featuring the excep­tio­nal singer and ​‘stage animal’ William Beje­di. You can dance to a rave vibe – though with a folk and Irish twist – once again with the incre­di­bly ener­ge­tic Wanton String Band (UK/IRL/SCO). No less virtuo­sic, but with brass rather than strings, expe­ri­men­tal and wearing masks, FÜLÜ (FR, Toulouse/​IT) will have you dancing up a storm.

Bal O’Gadjo (FR, Occitanie/​CH) are hosting the grand Bal Folk without Borders, whilst the duo Les Sales Gosses (FR, Britt­a­ny), with their unbeata­ble French charm and plenty of humour, are delight­ing audi­en­ces for the second time at Buskers Bern.

Juli­an James & Beci Kate (AUS) from Down Under are spen­ding their winter touring Euro­pe, deli­ve­ring solid blues & roots / Ameri­ca­na that you can lose yours­elf in and sing along to.

We are deligh­ted to present comet (CH, Graubünden/​Lucerne) performing Rhae­to Romansh contem­po­ra­ry jazz – a Rumantsch premie­re at Buskers Bern – under the direc­tion of the versa­ti­le compo­ser, lyri­cist and singer Chia­ra Jacomet.

Both the young quar­tet Fräu­lein Luise (CH, Zurich) and Irma Krebs (CH, Bern) tell stories and sing in dialect and German, set to catchy indie pop rock and, more often than not, to the more chal­len­ging post-dialect core. Also from Switz­er­land: the hamme­red dulci­mer, but play­ed differ­ent­ly… by the trio Anderscht (CH, Appen­zell) at the Kornhausforum.

There’s music on offer for the youn­gest visi­tors too: Schorsch&Oskar (CH, Bern/​Biel) enchant with Berne­se German chan­sons, and wilder­bluescht (CH, Lucerne/​Obwalden) bake a cupca­ke whilst singing and playing.

Visu­al shows: Hair-raising acro­ba­tics and tender puppet stories

The visu­al perfor­man­ces promi­se equal­ly delightful delights. It’s not just Moritz Prax­ma­rer (CH, Däni­ken) who drinks tea on stage; the circus duo Clap Clap Circo (URU) do so too. Howe­ver, in their show *Borska*, wild­ly whir­ling hula hoops take cent­re stage. With the Black Blues Brot­hers (KEN), it is not hoops but the perfor­mers them­sel­ves who swing through the air, performing breath­ta­king stunts with appa­rent ease. Duo Kaos (IT/GUA) are just as daring in their hand-to-hand acro­ba­tics and are demons­t­ra­ting this whilst rolling on two wheels for the second time at Buskers Bern.

To ensu­re the audi­ence not only marvels but also has a good laugh, Mundo Cost­ri­ni (ARG/ESP) bring two Mozarts to the stage, who are constant­ly compe­ting with each other but also comple­ment each other beau­tiful­ly at times. The self-proclai­med foot­ball star Mencho Sosa (ARG) is also sure to raise a few laughs. With his foot­balls, he puts on a jugg­ling spec­ta­cle for ever­yo­ne – whether you’re a foot­ball fan or a foot­ball sceptic.

Compa­ñía elelei (ESP) takes a more deli­ca­te approach; with their dance piece *Blind­ly*, they have further deve­lo­ped the moment when hands are placed over your eyes from behind so that you can guess the person’s name. Compa­gnia Dromo­so­fis­ta (IT) reaches the height of poet­ry with *Histo­rie­ta de un Abra­zo* – the story of a hug – whose puppets and charac­ters touch every heart.

Walking Acts / Inter­ac­ti­ve Instal­la­ti­ons / Münsterplatz

The alley­ways of Bern’s Old Town are brought to life by some very special charac­ters: for exam­p­le, the over­si­zed flamin­go from Compa­gnie Mach­ti­ern (FR), which wadd­les through the alley­ways, or the wicked, fire-breathing dragon, which only very rare­ly tilts its head to one side and allows itself to be stro­ked (I Maghi del Tempo, IT). The high­ly complex, mecha­ni­cal, flamen­co-dancing, bicy­cle-like vehic­le from Dyna­mo­gè­ne (FR, Nîmes) moves along on wheels. Mean­while, a balle­ri­na dances elegant­ly on a giant ball, guided by an over­si­zed puppet (Compa­gnie with Balls, NL).

You can put your skills to the test with the games crea­ted from recy­cled bicy­cles by Guixot de 8 (CAT), on the twel­ve-hole mini-golf cour­se by Mumu­sic Circus (CAT), or by conduc­ting the giant puppet hands of Itin­erà­nia (CAT). At Matthi­as Zurbrügg’s (CH, Bern) in the lower Herren­gas­se, words recla­im the streets.

This year, there are two fanta­stic shows to disco­ver on Müns­ter­platz: The well-known Swiss compa­ny Roik­ku­va (CH, Vill­mer­gen) brings a bril­li­ant mix of camp magic, tigh­tro­pe walking and live music to the stage. And Théât­re Jaleo (FR) masterful­ly weaves its way through every conceiva­ble genre – from puppe­try to dance to magic – and stages the seven dead­ly sins.

The Müns­ter­platt­form will once again host the popu­lar Bizaar acti­vi­ty market, where inter­ac­tion between perfor­mers and the audi­ence is encou­ra­ged, as well as the children’s and fami­ly program­me featuring various stalls and two acts. At the Buskershaus@PROGR, in the PROGR sports hall, the Buskers after-party takes place every night, with a Buskers band play­ing and jam sessi­ons invi­ting ever­yo­ne to join in and dance. On the Labor Stage in Post­gas­se, featuring eight acts, up-and-coming artists from the regi­on in parti­cu­lar can gain stage expe­ri­ence. The audi­ence can also enjoy refresh­ments at 63 careful­ly selec­ted food and drink stalls, main­ly from Bern and the surroun­ding area.

Buskers Bern – a very special open-air festival

Buskers Bern is a rather special open-air festi­val held in Bern’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heri­ta­ge Site. The festi­val site is not cordo­ned off, and over the cour­se of three days the public has free access to over 300 shows.

Orga­ni­s­ing such a large-scale and logi­sti­cal­ly complex festi­val costs around one milli­on Swiss francs. For a festi­val of this magni­tu­de, that is rela­tively litt­le. Buskers Bern is a non-profit, low-budget event with no spon­sors, and is over 90 per cent self-finan­ced. Buskers Bern is ther­e­fo­re heavi­ly reli­ant on the audience’s willing­ness to pay:

No Hat Money – no Artists
Thanks to the audience’s gene­rous tips for the perfor­man­ces, the artists conti­nue to make music and put on shows; they are willing to play in Bern without a fee and are able to make a living from their art. The festi­val covers trans­port, board and lodging for all artists for three or four days.

No Festi­val Brace­let – no Festi­val
Thanks to the sale of program­me book­lets and festi­val wrist­bands, we can set up stages, cook meals for staff and artists, book hotel rooms, pay wages and run elec­tri­cal cables through the old town – in short: this is the only way Buskers Bern can conti­nue to exist. Sales of program­me book­lets and festi­val wrist­bands must cover around half of the total budget.

Tips for a great festival experience

Advan­ce sales! To help you plan your visit, we recom­mend taking advan­ta­ge of advan­ce sales and purcha­sing your program­me and festi­val wrist­band in advan­ce; these are available at 36 advan­ce sales outlets in Bern and online.

Get there early! We recom­mend arri­ving at the festi­val as early as 6.00 pm, ideal­ly on Thurs­day. The program­me is just as packed then – meaning exact­ly the same number of acts as later in the evening. At Buskers Bern, every act is a head­li­ner – or rather, none of them are.

Seating! It’s a good idea to bring your own seat or buy a camping stool from an infor­ma­ti­on stand or the festi­val office. It fits in almost any handbag. 

Meet & Greet and VIP

At Buskers Bern, ​‘Meet & Greet the Artists’ is part of the program­me – open to ever­yo­ne, anyti­me and anywhe­re, with no extra cost and no need for VIP passes, VIP stands or VIP back­stage tours.

The Lower Old Town of Bern, between Zytglog­ge and Nydegg, will be closed to priva­te vehic­les as follows: 

Thurs­day 6 August 2026 from 12.00 – 01.00, Friday 7 and Satur­day 8 August 2026 from 14.00 – 01.00.

Public trans­port 

Bus routes 12 and 30, as well as the Moon­li­ner, will be diver­ted all day on all three days via Graben­pro­me­na­de, Brunn­gas­shal­de and Post­gas­shal­de. This appli­es in both directions.

Weather

The festi­val will go ahead whate­ver the weather. Some venues are weather­pro­of. In the event of rain, alter­na­ti­ve indoor venues will be used, and perfor­man­ces will take place under the arca­des where­ver possible.
